Guided tour - The Hamlet, from Marie-Antoinette to Marie-Louise

Nestled at the far end of the Estate, along the banks of the lake, you will find the thatched cottages of the Hamlet built by Richard Mique for Marie-Antoinette. These survivors of a dazzling and eventful period exemplify the Queen's taste for the charms of country life. While some cottages were devoted to farming activities, others were designed to be enjoyed during a stroll or to receive guests. Their refined interior decor contrasts with their rustic exteriors. They can now be rediscovered thanks to restoration work.
